Profesor asociado del Departamento de Ingeniería Civil de la Universidad de Concepción e investigador principal del Centro de Desarrollo Urbano Sustentable (CEDEUS). Ingeniero Civil en Industrias y magíster en Ciencias de la Ingeniería de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Doctor en Ingeniería y Planificación de Transporte de la Universidad de Toronto.
Las investigaciones de Juan Antonio están orientadas a la planificación e ingeniería de transporte, al desarrollo de modelos de comportamiento y demanda de transporte, y al estudio del contexto social de dicha demanda. También aborda las políticas del transporte público y el uso del suelo vinculado con el transporte.
